The “Lumino” Application
It has been revealed that the average amount of daylight received by a person in a day is usually insufficient. This may partly be due to winter, but it may also be the result of a drastic change in the lifestyle of people which have shifted from an outdoor life to an indoor existence, thus bringing the average amount of daylight received in a day to an insufficient level. The phenomenon is even exacerbated by the fact that during sunny days, people do not hesitate to wear sunglasses, further reducing the energy supply base. Research show that up to 20% of the population suffers from a lack of light exposure of which usually follows a tendency to depress and/or simply incites sleeplessness.
The beneficial effect of light is related to its direct influence on the secretion of melatonin, also known as the "sleep hormone", and the neurotransmitter ‘serotonin' (having a strong effect on people's mood). Overall, light stops the secretion of melatonin, which facilitates morning awakening, provides energy and ensures better alertness throughout the day. It is specifically blue light with a wavelength of 460 nm that is responsible for stopping the secretion of melatonin.
Stimulation by light combined with the “emotional suggestion”
The lack of light usually induces a depressive tendency to which insomnia can be related to. This can be explained by the low amount of light exposure which directly affects both serotonin and melatonin.
The PSiO is therefore a powerful tool designed in response to this problem. The many downloadable programs available on the website are designed to offer light stimulation coupled with topics related to depression and insomnia amongst others.
PSiO's "Light Exposure" Programs
A. The light emitted in the PSiO is preferably set at 460 nm, which is the most effective wavelength in the stimulation of serotonin and suppression of melatonin.
B. Coupled with light stimulations, "Audio medicines" are psycho-acoustic recordings using voices, sounds and music which altogether propel the person into a state of deep relaxation on the edge of sleep and uses psycho-acoustic techniques such as the Erickson suggestion methods to provide the user with positive and soothing images. Light stimulation therefore completes recording guides aimed at helping the person to draw from it the necessary resources to overcome depression or sink into a restful sleep.
When best to use the PSiO and its programs to curb insomnia & depressive tendency
Generally, as a preventive measure to restrain depression, it is advised to see to a session in the late afternoon or early evening ("Joy of Life" or "Be Happy Again"). With respect to insomnia, programs such as "Fall Asleep in The Garden of Gods" is ideal. In the morning, upon awakening, a session of meditation helps with the program "Power" which is perfect to improve the start of the day by blocking the production of melatonin. It is also indicated, prior to listening to the above recordings, to use the following programs: “Letting Go” and "Free One's Mind" which are basically two preparatory recordings that help the user to let go and thus optimize the suggestion contained in the aforementioned programs.
In summary, the LUMINO application programs are:
- Letting Go
- Free One's Mind
- Joy of Life
- Be Happy Again
- Fall Asleep in The Garden of Gods
- Power (coming soon)
